1. Teeth Whitening Strips

For a brighter smile, teeth whitening strips are one of the easiest ways to lift surface stains and restore sparkle. I have sensitive teeth, so my go-to options are the Lumineux and Crest 3D Whitestrips Sensitive varieties.
Lumineux Teeth Whitening Strips 21 Treatments. Peroxide free, enamel safe, without the sensitivity, and dentist formulated. These are my top choice for gentle but effective whitening that never irritates.
Crest Whitestrips Professional Effects. Ideal for removing deep stains and achieving a professional level white smile when you want a stronger treatment. A great option if you do not have sensitive teeth or gums.
Crest 3D Whitestrips Sensitive At Home Teeth Whitening Kit. Designed for those with sensitive teeth and gums while still delivering noticeable results.
If you are just starting out, I recommend completing a full box for your first treatment to see the best results. After that, touch-ups every three to four months will help maintain your brightness. I usually do mine about every three months and use five to seven treatments for each touch-up. With Lumineux, I typically notice a difference within a few days, and the results build gradually without irritation.
How safe is whitening?
Most over-the-counter whitening products are considered safe when used correctly. The key is moderation. Overusing them can lead to temporary sensitivity, so it helps to take breaks and follow instructions carefully. If you have dental work, check with your dentist before starting.
Whitening Kits for At Home Use
If you prefer a more complete whitening setup, an at-home kit such as the Auraglow Teeth Whitening Kit can deliver excellent results. I had my teeth professionally whitened over 20 years ago using a custom dental mold, and it made a noticeable difference. For those starting fresh, this option is highly rated and often recommended by users who want a deeper whitening experience.
This system combines LED light and gel technology for deeper whitening while keeping sensitivity low. Always follow instructions carefully to protect your enamel.
Electric Toothbrushes

Upgrading to an electric toothbrush makes a world of difference. It not only cleans more thoroughly but also helps protect your gums with consistent pressure. My husband actually gave me my first electric toothbrush as a gift, and it completely changed how I brush. Before switching, I know I wasn’t brushing for as long as I should have, but the built-in vibration timer keeps me on track and reminds me when to move to the next section of my teeth. I also love the multiple settings that let me choose between a deep clean or a gentler option for sensitive days.
My husband and I both use these two models:
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. Great for daily use and polishing away surface stains.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5300 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. Another excellent option for deep cleaning and gum health.
We replace our brush heads every three months. Our brushes remind us when it is time to switch, and I also set a reminder in my phone calendar so I never miss it. You might notice the top of the box is cut open in the photo — that’s the only way to get into these things!
Toothpaste and Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene goes beyond choosing the right products. Brushing twice a day for at least two minutes and flossing once a day are simple habits that make a big difference. I like to brush after breakfast and again before bed, followed by either traditional floss or my water flosser.
Crest Pro-Health Advanced Sensitive & Enamel Shield Toothpaste. This is my daily toothpaste and was recommended by my dentist. It’s gentle on sensitivity and keeps my teeth feeling clean and smooth.
Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste. I use this a few nights a week for a gentle whitening boost. It’s fluoride free, protects enamel, and gives that polished finish between professional cleanings.
Between brushings, drinking water after meals and limiting sugary or sticky snacks help keep your mouth fresh and reduce plaque buildup. Small changes like these keep your smile healthy and strong over time
Water Flossing for Complete Oral Care

A water flosser is a simple but powerful addition to any oral care routine. It helps clean where brushing cannot reach and is especially gentle on sensitive gums.
Waterpik Cordless Advanced 2.0 Water Flosser. Perfect for daily use to remove plaque and debris between teeth and below the gumline without harsh chemicals.
Once you get into the routine, you will wonder how you ever skipped this step. It leaves my mouth feeling fresher than traditional flossing.
Foods That Keep Teeth Clean
What you eat plays a big role in keeping your teeth bright and strong.
Crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and celery act as natural cleansers that help remove plaque.
Dairy products such as cheese and yogurt add calcium to strengthen enamel.
Green tea and water help rinse away bacteria and reduce staining from coffee or wine.

Before we left for a wedding in Scottsdale, Arizona, I decided to do a quick five-day touch-up with the Lumineux Teeth Whitening Strips (link coming soon). I’m so glad I did because my teeth looked naturally white and polished, and I felt confident and photo ready throughout the weekend.
Happy teeth whitening!
